US businessman Mykalai Kontilai (54), known for distributing children’s programs, was arrested in April 2023 on the A8 Autobahn near Rosenheim. Upon his arrest, investigators found $400,000 in his vehicle. Kontilai is accused of defrauding investors of $23 million, including embezzling $6 million of that money, including for the purchase of a car, paying for private schools, and luxury apartments. He has been on the run since 2020 and is on the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list.
Munich-based criminal defense attorney Nanni Charlotte Herrmann of the law firm H2 Rechtsanwälte is representing Kontilai and is fighting against his extradition to the US, where he faces a prison sentence of up to 424 years. Instead, they are seeking extradition to Italy, as Kontilai also holds Italian citizenship.
